Ukraine finished July in 59th place in the global mobile internet ranking, five positions higher than a month earlier. Kyiv jumped 50 places in the city standings, according to data from the Speedtest Global Index.
The ranking is compiled monthly by analytics firm Ookla, based on measurements taken by users of the Speedtest service. Countries and cities are ranked separately for mobile and fixed broadband, with median download speed as the key metric. Since June 2024, only locations that meet the Precision Threshold criterion have been included in the sample.
In the mobile segment, Ukraine sits between Ireland and Chile. Its median download speed reached 82.22 Mbps, up from 70.2 Mbps a month earlier. The United Kingdom now trails Ukraine as well, holding 62nd place with 74.57 Mbps.
Median upload speed on Ukrainian mobile networks stands at 15.73 Mbps, with latency of 23 ms. Both figures beat the global medians of 14.19 Mbps and 24 ms. On download speed, however, the country still lags well behind the global level of 109.73 Mbps.

Kyiv was the main driver of the improvement. The capital took 55th place among the world’s cities with 161.39 Mbps. Kharkiv gained six positions and rose to 61st place with a median speed of 156.13 Mbps. Both cities are running at nearly twice the national figure.
The increase coincided with the arrival of fifth-generation networks in the capital. In July, Kyivstar opened the largest 5G test zone in Kyiv under the Ministry of Digital Transformation’s pilot project. Around the same time, Vodafone reported that 135,000 subscribers had joined its network during the first day of open testing.
The fixed broadband market saw almost no movement. Ukraine held 80th place among 151 countries for a second month in a row, with Greece and Azerbaijan as its neighbors in the table. Median download speed here is 92.81 Mbps, upload 93.92 Mbps, and latency 4 ms. These figures have barely shifted over the past year.
In the city standings for fixed broadband, Kyiv remained in 104th place with 94.67 Mbps. Kharkiv slipped two positions to 114th. Its median download speed is 92.85 Mbps.
The leaders of both rankings are unchanged. The fastest mobile internet is in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at 663.50 Mbps, followed by Qatar with 548.35 Mbps and Kuwait with 392.52 Mbps. In fixed broadband, Singapore leads with 451.14 Mbps. Behind it are the UAE with 382.87 Mbps and Chile with 380.93 Mbps. Afghanistan closes the tab at 5.29 Mbps.
